Oncology Care Therapies

Oncology Massage

Massage is an integrative healthcare practice that is increasingly being used during and after cancer treatment. Oncology massage is about specific, knowledgeable, caring service. It is not a series of techniques or applied protocols. Rather, it is a body of knowledge about cancer and how cancer treatment can and does affect the body. A massage therapist who has oncology massage training has the ability to use information gathered from a person's unique medical history to adapt any number of existing massage therapy techniques to provide a safe, effective, and satisfying massage session.

Clinical research supports the use of massage in reducing pain and anxiety. People affected by cancer also report benefits like improved sleep, decreased feelings of isolation, enhanced body image, and increased feelings of well-being. Oncology massage education for massage therapists is essential for clinical safety and therapeutic benefit.

Many cancer treatments require immediate as well as long-term massage modifications in particular where lymph nodes have been removed or compromised. Adaptations to massage therapy techniques may be indicated not only during treatment but also potentially for the rest of a person's life after treatment.

*Please note inital Oncology Massage session is 90 minutes in length in order for Therapist to become familiar with your needs. This additional 30 minute consultation is complimentary. It is helpful to bring a completed HEALTH INTAKE FORM for your first visit. We also encourage you to recieve your Dr.'s approval with our PHYSICIAN AUTHORIZATION FORM.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

MLD  is a highly specialized, gentle, and effective treatment which improves the function of the lymphatic system throughout the body.  Within us all there is a silent system working to keep us healthy- the lymph system. Without it our bodies would swell up like balloons, swamping our cells with stagnant fluid. The lymph system's impact is so far reaching that many don't even realize that minor aches and pains, low energy or susceptibility to colds and flu may be due to a sluggish lymph system and a compromised immune system.  Benefits of MLD include: treatment of Lymphedema post-surgical swelling, lymphedema, sports injuries (such as sprains), whiplash, migraine and sinus headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, as well as general relaxation, detoxification, and enhanced immunity.

A holistic therapy in which massage is applied to the reflex points on the feet that correspond to all of the body’s systems, organs and glands. This treatment helps to stimulate the normal functions of the body, supports immune system and creates emotional and mental well-being.

A Japanese word meaning “universal life force energy”, is a natural healing method using channeled energy through a practitioner’s hands. Treatment is experienced fully clothed and works on the client’s energy fields. Practitioner's hands are often just over clients body, which is especially helpful when skin is sensitive to touch from radiation.  Reiki is found to be deeply relaxing and has helped reduce pain caused by oncology treatments.
